Een bijzondere gebeurtenis, omdat dit de eerste keer is dat een schip van deze lengte Alkmaar aandoet.

De cruisevakantie blijft onverminderd aan populariteit winnen. Dit blijkt uit de cijfers van de Dutch Cruise Council (DCC) met de boekingsresultaten voor 2011, die vandaag zijn bekend gemaakt. In de periode t/m 1 april 2011 zijn 57.019 cruisepassagiers geboekt. Dat is een groei van 32,8% ten opzichte van dezelfde periode vorig jaar, toen 42.921 cruiseboekingen werden gemaakt. Ook voor de komende maanden zijn de verwachtingen zeer positief, de DCC verwacht binnen afzienbare tijd 100.000 Nederlandse cruisepassagiers per jaar te realiseren. Temeer omdat cruises ook steeds vaker als last-minute optie worden meegenomen in de keuze van de vakantieganger.

A milestone for the youngest AIDA ship as guest of honor: AIDAsol was recently the 1000th ship to enter the cruise port of Amsterdam. In a festive ceremony on Saturday, the Mayor of Amsterdam, Eberhard van der Laan, handed Captain Deflef Harms the key of the city. A plaque was affixed to the bridge of the ship at the same time. The Mayor was given a portrait photograph of the christening of AIDAsol by the Captain.

In 2010 hebben 616 touringcars Alkmaar op vrijdagochtend aangedaan, tegenover 622 in 2009. Hiermee is dit aantal ongeveer gelijk gebleven. Het aantal cruiseschepen dat Alkmaar aandoet in 2010 is met maar liefst 33% toegenomen ten opzichte van 2009.

Haarlem, a city which has successfully retained its rich historical décor, is a thriving cultural podium. Since the reconstruction of the lock at Spaarndam, this western gateway to the Amsterdam metropolitan region is open to canal cruisers up to 110 metres in length. Haarlem’s proximity to Schiphol Airport, a mere 20 kilometres away, makes it an attractive starting point for exploring the region by water. This can be combined with visits to the nearby Spring Garden at the Keukenhof, and the beach and promenade at Zandvoort.

De zeecruises in het Noordzeekanaalgebied zijn weer in opkomst. Ten opzichte van 2009 verwacht promotieorganisatie Amsterdam Cruise Port (ACP) een lichte stijging van het aantal aanlopen bij zowel de Passenger Terminal Amsterdam als de Felison Terminal in IJmuiden. Ook de vijftien ‘maiden calls’ geven de burger moed. Daarnaast ontwikkelen de riviercruises zich stormachtig met ruim 1100 aanlopen in 2010, een absoluut record. Dit bleek tijdens de opening van het cruiseseizoen in het fraaie Convent Hotel in Amsterdam, waar ook de Noord-Hollandse gedeputeerde Jaap Bond aanwezig was.

From 19 to 23 August, SAIL Amsterdam is held on and around the IJ river. This event is held every 5 years, it is the largest event in the Netherlands which is open to public. Highlight of this event is the impressive traditional parade from IJmuiden to Amsterdam featuring over 50 tall ships, naval ships, replicas and modern yachts. Hundreds of ships will accompany the procession on its way to mooring places along the IJ river. The impressive SAIL fleet will be accompanied by an extensive sports and cultural program. Every day during SAIL, there will be all kinds of activities at various locations which are free to the public.

Maiden call MS Switzerland in Alkmaar

|
June 11th, the MS Switzerland called on Alkmaar for the first time. A special event, due to the fact that it was the first time a river cruise ship with this length (100 meters) visited the town of Alkmaar.
A official welcome was organized to celebrate this festive event. The mayor of the city of Alkmaar handed over a special plaque of the city to the captain of the MS Switzerland, to commemorate this first call. The captain had the honor to ring the bell to open the traditional cheese market in Alkmaar, which is held every Friday from April to September.
