De cruisevakantie blijft onverminderd aan populariteit winnen. Dit blijkt uit de cijfers van de Dutch Cruise Council (DCC) met de boekingsresultaten voor 2011, die vandaag zijn bekend gemaakt. In de periode t/m 1 april 2011 zijn 57.019 cruisepassagiers geboekt. Dat is een groei van 32,8% ten opzichte van dezelfde periode vorig jaar, toen 42.921 cruiseboekingen werden gemaakt. Ook voor de komende maanden zijn de verwachtingen zeer positief, de DCC verwacht binnen afzienbare tijd 100.000 Nederlandse cruisepassagiers per jaar te realiseren. Temeer omdat cruises ook steeds vaker als last-minute optie worden meegenomen in de keuze van de vakantieganger.

A milestone for the youngest AIDA ship as guest of honor: AIDAsol was recently the 1000th ship to enter the cruise port of Amsterdam. In a festive ceremony on Saturday, the Mayor of Amsterdam, Eberhard van der Laan, handed Captain Deflef Harms the key of the city. A plaque was affixed to the bridge of the ship at the same time. The Mayor was given a portrait photograph of the christening of AIDAsol by the Captain.

From 19 to 23 August, SAIL Amsterdam is held on and around the IJ river. This event is held every 5 years, it is the largest event in the Netherlands which is open to public. Maiden call MS Switzerland in Alkmaar
June 11th, the MS Switzerland called on Alkmaar for the first time. A special event, due to the fact that it was the first time a river cruise ship with this length (100 meters) visited the town of Alkmaar. A official welcome was organized to celebrate this festive event. The mayor of the city of Alkmaar handed over a special plaque of the city to the captain of the MS Switzerland, to commemorate this first call. The captain had the honor to ring the bell to open the traditional cheese market in Alkmaar, which is held every Friday from April to September.
